yes, I know it’s a weird time of year to be asking about de-winterizing…
I put my boat in lay-up last fall because I knew I wouldn’t get to use it for a while. I flushed & drained the motor, drained fuel from the carbs, filter, and lines, put stabilizer in the fuel tank, fogged the cylinders, etc. Things have settled a little and now I’m going hoping to go pick up the boat and fire her up for the first time in almost a year.
I plan to drain a few gallons from the fuel tank and make sure no water separated out, charge the battery, and be prepared for some smoke on startup, but is there anything else I should be doing/looking for?
Keep an eye on the coolant discharge. Water pumps sometimes go after sitting dry for awhile.
You might want to consider a new set of plugs after an hour or two also.
Replace the water pump before you even try to start the motor.
Pop the kill switch and turn the motor over long enough to get some fuel/oil mix in the cylinders. You don’t want that thing firing off after a year on a virtually dry cylinder.
I acquired a boat that hadent run in years last year. The motor wouldnt turn over so i pulled out the plugs and sprayed a little wd40 in each hole and it then turned right over and has run fine since. good advise from chris v in his post. I doubt you will have that problem after only a year though.
all - thanks for the advice. It’s a 2006 carburated two-stroke Yamaha 150 (150TXR). I changed to water pump and oil in the lower unit a month or so before it put it up, so hopefully that will still be ok.
