I saw a lot of dead stripers on the banks Saturday. Is there something going on other than hot weather?

very low D.O. right now. probably has something to do with the inactivity as well.

“Short Strike”
it is a phenomenon known as thermal refugeing where the stripers suspend in water that is a suitable temperature, but not necessarily maintaining adequate oxygen. it happens in many southeastern reservoirs. they become stressed by the low oxygen count and will not feed as the bait tends to hold in a different strata. this is the reason release rates are so poor in late summer. DNR has done radio tag studies that show released fish that swim off actually died a short time later. late summer is just a tough time for lake zebras. a couple of good cold fronts will get 'em schooled-up and feeding - be there.
I was out by the LM dam yesterday and there at least a hundred floaters I counted.
Fisherman, Hunters, and other Liars gather here!
There was also a report of a major killoff on the Wateree River in Lugoff a few weeks back. Low flows at the dam = low level and low DO
thought to be the reason. Sure is a shame to lose 'em.
