First time visitor to Debordieu this april. We have several kids and they love fishing. Any suggestions for tackle - both surf and the creek(shallows?)?
We would also be interested in shrimping if that an even happen this time of year?
Thanks

NO shrimp for you. Kinda early in the season. You can fish the surf with cut shrimp and catch small fish. Walking down to the North end of the island and fish the inlet you might catch some flounder fishing a “carolina rig” on the bottom with mud minnows or finger mullet if you can find them. Island should be semi quiet which makes it enjoyable.

You will fall in love. Too early for shrimp. Flounder, trout, and spot tail bass will be in the creeks. Hire a North Inlet guide and have a ball. Also, crabbing will be getting good.
Find the “Community Dock”, just before causeway, on right. Fish mud minnows under corks and on carolina rigs for flounder and trout (adjust leader length to keep bait just off bottom), shrimp on bottom should yield black and red drum. Be mindful of regulations, it would hurt to get a $500 ticket for each undersize fish.

The pond fishing in the community is pretty hot right now and should be next week during your stay. The kids will have fun catching pretty nice sized largemouths.
