My son waited until the very end of the season before he finally pulled a trigger, but he got one on 12/31 around 5pm. I was with him and got to watch over his shoulder…This buck was a 5 pointer because it was missing brow tines…never grew either one.
Anyway, pretty happy for him - nice deer…nothing huge, but he made a long shot and this is his first one for him in 2 seasons. He likes to look at deer and pass them up, but I told him it was time to shoot.
Billy, have you ever told him about that Bird In The Hand thing
Great point and all I can say is I’ve tried!! He’s killed several deer with the biggest being a medium 8 pointer, but a few years ago he had a monster get away from him…snuck up right behind him and he didn’t get a shot at it. Ever since, he’s been single minded on BIG buck only. Tough to get him to even shoot a doe and use a tag. I have to remind him that even thought we pass on a lot of deer, I like to eat and every now and then we have to put something in the freezer!
I admire how disciplined he is on the trigger, though. I’ve trained him well…I wouldn’t want him shooting at me…he hasn’t missed a shot since his first buck when he was 9.
That’s a good thing Billy, that he doesn’t kill for the sake of it. But, having said that, next time he pass’s up a deer and you feed him, Charge him for dinner.
