Decent 8

I went back to the tiny spot in Cross this morning. I jumped a couple on my way to the blind around 0425. At around 0535 I started watching this buck with the binos. Once legal time hit, I made the decision to take him. Of course, he moved off, and I thought that was it. Well, a couple of minutes later, I noticed him around 20 yds to the right. I got lined up and let it go.

Not a trophy, or the biggest (only 171#), but I know a family that will enjoy it!

You sir, are doing very well this season. I haven’t had the chance to get out because of school, but you are making me quite jealous. Keep it up! Love seeing your posts.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

i wonder where i can get some of these “OK” bucks lol

That’s a pretty 8 pointer…Congrats

Thanks fellas! I have been fortunate to be able to put in a lot of time in the woods. The Good Lord continues to bless my family and friends with some good eats!
Out of the 18 deer I have taken, so far this season, only 7 have been bucks. And, only 4 of those bucks have been really decent. But, all will be enjoyed!

18…This Season? Holy Moly! That’'s a lot of bullets!

Isn’t there a limit one can kill? They are a worthless animal for our ecosystem in SC, besides entertainment for man, but it seems like they would be regulated in someway.

They are regulated some, but there is no shortage of woodgoats in the lowcountry, IMHO.

So it sounds like there are only daily limits and not season limits…No limit on bucks and 1 doe. No wonder there aren’t many trophies down here. Sounds like Sustenance hunting is more of a priority rather than trophy regs.

it is bio and we are more about tradition here than trying to be fancy. there is a daily limit on bucks its two a day for 5 months so we trade quantity over quality and every now and then we hear some out=of-stater whine about it but we really dont give a sht

Actually, there is no limit on antlered deer. At least not on private land in game zone 6.

Sorry I’m not whining. I could careless about deer hunting it was more of an observation. I would imagine there is pretty poor nutrition in the low country too leading to smaller deer.
I guess I would compare it to wanting to catch a bull redfish that you can’t eat or catch a slot fish for the cooler?

bioguy
There is plenty of nutrition for SC deer. Deer size is determined by temperature. The biggest bucks (350#) are in Canada. The smallest in Key West.

Hunting, fishing, and poker are my sports. Work when necessary.

Dam there are a lot of biologists around here.

Real nice buck! Congrats!

Thank you! I had a skull mount done with this one.
I’m getting excited about getting my opening day “big boy” back from Pernell’s! It will be my first shoulder mount. I bet yours will look great!
Good luck the rest of the season everyone!
