Deep hole baiting

Any value in dropping bait balls into a deep hole and then throwing a deep hole net. I would think I’d still need a shriming license but wouldn’t have any poles. I guess I could attach my tag to the boat rail? I have no idea whether that is legal.

Good luck explaining that to the DNR. Our regs (while enforced) are pretty lax. If we all start doing random crap they will either get sick of trying to keep up and shut it down or add new rules/regs to counter it.

Buy a pole, stick it in the ground, throw bait within a reasonable vacinity of the pole. Pole must have lic tag. If the DNR feels you are taking advantage of the program they will find something to hit you with or spend hours counting each of your shrimp.

Do it right, keep the fishery open for you and others to enjoy.

Do not put that sticker on anything but a shrimp pole. You are just asking for some attention.

I don’t think there would be any advantage to baiting deep hole shrimp, but have no idea of the legalities. I don’t use bait for shrimp, never had trouble catching them without bait and they taste better. When they are in deep holes you can see them on the fish finder and they are already bunched up. Why bother with bait?

I would think that in a deep hole you have no way to tell where your bait lands, and then you might actually draw the shrimp away from wherever your net lands. IDK I have no experience in this. As said above, why bother?

I was thinking that the bait would localize them even more but you are probably right about not being certain where the bait is.

Cracker Larry, what do the shrimp look like on the sonar, if you don’t mind me asking? I have my units dialed in on freshwater. I fish brush piles for crappie and can see a 1/32oz. Jig in 25 feet of water, but would have no clue what shrimp would look like. Maybe like thredfin stacked up on the bottom?

On my Humminbird they show up as small blue spikes close together right above the bottom, like this “”"""""""""""""</font id=“blue”>
