Looking to try deep hole shrimping so I can get some live bait. Is a 5/8th mesh ok for the Charleston area? The 10’ betts super pro I picked up doesn’t come in 1/2 mesh. Thanks.
That should work just fine, 1/8" difference won’t really be a problem.

Thanks. On a ruler it’s not much but ■■■■■■■■ I received was 1/2 was the way to go. Haven’t broken the seal on the bucket yet just in case.
I ended up ordering an Ed Shumaker 10 foot deep hole net 1/2 inch with 1.6 pounds per foot. Supposedly he’s a great custom net maker and he told me he builds lots of shrimp net for folks here is Charleston. I’ll post a pic and review when I receive it.
How much was the shumaker
$200. Nets are $20 a foot with deep hole webbing sewn in. He’s also making the rope 75 feet but will customize the net with any size, weight, rope or net color you want. Do a quick search and you’ll quickly find that shumaker and Tim wade nets are regarded as the best nets out there. He’s about 2.5 weeks out now because it’s shrimping season in quite a few places. I just called him up and told him what I was looking to do and he gave me some ideas on what to order. He’s been building them by hand for 45 years.
Hs website has a few pics and talks about how he builds them but also has his contact if anyone is interested. Have no affiliation with him other than ordering a deep hole net and an 8 foot bait net. I believe a standard bait net is $17 a foot.
I bought one of his last year. Super top quality net!
