Any tide…usually during the day…
Depth varies and you have to find them.
Might be a stupid question but can you have any luck deep holing using a 10ft 5/8 net that isn’t taped? I have one that I use for Menhaden and would love to try deep holing…just wanted to see if I could get some experience with my current net first before I go spend money on another net…
I would not say “can’t have any luck” but we have deep holed around boats throwing non-taped nets and they are still trying to make it an even dozen when we are rolling out with a limit. Just my $.02…

I’ve thrown taped and non-taped nets in a pool to watch how they sink. Non-taped nets get smaller as they sink fairly quickly.
In 10-12 feet or less it would be okay. The taped nets will usually hit the bottom round in deeper water and closes much more slowly
as it sinks. When a taped net hits the water half open it will open and round out as it sinks. When deep holing it’s all about finding the shrimp
and we’ve found them in anything from 9-10 feet down to 30 feet.
A taped net is the only way to go when deep holing.
If you have a good fish finder and know how to use it, you can easily spot shrimp right off the bottom. We never throw the net until we are marking shrimp. Deep holing is hard work, hate hauling that net in with nothing in it.
