Deep Hole Shrimping

I just bought a nice taped net from Haddrels (to replace the one stolen along with my boat). I’m heading down to the low country from Charlotte next week for a little time on the water. Are there any shrimp in the usual deep holes. Mainly looking for enough to fish with but wouldn’t mind catching enough for a pot of steamed shrimp. Thanks for any and all responses.

By the way, I was very impressed with the advise and service provided by Haddrels. There was a little glitch with my on line order. They jumped through hoops to get everything right. Kudos to them!

your time will be better spent chatting Simon and the guys up at Haddrells than trying deepholing for the most part around here right now…

Plenty of shrimp in the creeks right now, some big enough to eat.No problem getting enough for bait and you might get a decent amount to boil if you’re lucky.

Yes,it was a pleasant surprise yesterday, but these brownies won’t be around for long. Then we’ll have to wait on the smaller whites to get big enough to use, usually by July 1. Hey isn’t deep holing usually a winter time activity? I know it’s hard to believe but I’ve never done this.haha

actually winter time deep holing shrimping period you can only keep 12 dozen…I’ve done all my deep holing during the summer and fall…

Thanks for all the responses. I will probably take my new taped net with me (just to try it out) but will definitely also bring my “creek net”. If I happen to find any shrimp in deep water, I will let you know. Thanks again.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think we’re still in the 12 dozen limit until shrimp baiting season comes along.

negative, may 1 it reverted to a cooler

from SCDNR:Taking Shrimp Without Bait
Closed: Dec. 16 - Apr. 30 (12 dozen dead or live shrimp allowed per boat during closed season) 48 quarts whole or 29 quarts headed per day (sunrise to sunrise) per boat, per person if no boat is used, or per seining party

sman, bonzo, y’all wanna have a “seining party”?

I’ll have to pass,I’m busy with fight club right now. P needs my help.

Found a few brown shrimp in a usually reliable deep hole. Nothing like the fall but no problem getting enough for bait plus a few extra to take home. There were enough shrimp in the hole that we could see them on the fish finder. Would have done a lot better if I was any good at casting my new net! Was not successful casting my smaller net in a creek that has always produced for me. The creek was full of mullet (large, not finger size) but no shrimp. Glad I had my taped net with me.
