Deeper Waters

With wind from the south for several days in a row, water has warmed up quite a bit. Reported weed line in 400 plus feet of water south and offshore of Edisto Banks.

It took a while to find it but once on the weed line, found fish. Water depth 400 - 450. No strong current or big temperature break on the weed line. Scattered weed around also, plenty of time spent clearing line.

We put five in the boat and, as you would expect, lost the fish of the day at the boat. Bite died down around 2 pm.

Added a new bird to the list - Wilson’s Storm Petrel. Apparently one of the most common birds in the world but I had never seen one. Unless you live in the Antarctic not going to see one on land. Saw another bird that I could not identify.

Heard on the radio others nearby catching Mahi also, best report was 30 or 35 pounds. Water temperatures were 72 in the river, 70.5 heading to 75 over 200 feet. Temps heading back were only up a little unlike last trip. I think with more wind the increase in temps in the afternoon this trip was more normal.

I guess the king mackerel should be around given the conditions. Grouper season opens this coming Thursday too. May try closer to home next trip.
