From reading on another forum, it is now signed into law for a limit on bucks and tags for all deer coming in 2017.
Good deal
Here is the break down: 3 unrestricted buck tags and 3 unrestricted doe tags. An additional 8 “date specific” doe tags will be issued, and hunters have the option of purchasing 2 restricted buck tags. Restricted means at least 4 points on one side or 12" inside spread.

It’s a start. Should be at least 4 on 1 side, a little more than 12 and no more than 3 per year. Heard would start looking a lot better once people stop shooting scrub bucks

If you want some quality bucks, you need to get the scrub bucks and small nannys out of the herd. If some would take out a few scrubs and scrawny does and let some of the trophy size walk then we could talk about a good looking herd.
Those tag laws sound pretty reasonable. If anyone has a legit reason to take more deer DNR is pretty reasonable issuing depredation permits.

Legally kill 17 deer. If that is deer management we are in serious trouble. Thank you Charles Ruth and QDMA. Lets hear it, “it is a start, we will make more changes”.
We are going in the right direction. Like most though, I could easily kill 10+ deer a year off my little piece of property, I just choose not to. I harvest two for me, one for Mom usually. If more people only took what they needed we’d be a lot better off. I swear deer hunting has become a status symbol lately. I would have been fine with the 3bucks/3does per person.

There is still PLENTY of whaling and gnashing of teeth over this.

This is good news. Glad to hear the state is making some sort of attempt at managing deer hunting. I agree with 23, 3 bucks and 3 does is plenty. This is a step in the right direction.

I agree with you.
What I see is a slow dispersal of country land and many City people purchasing/leasing land that once was part of old large area hunt clubs.
No hate what so ever. I see a very lot of responsible people coming to rural areas to enjoy our natural resources. Of course you have your know-it-all newbies:smiley: But so does our coastal fisheries.
Things change, some people don’t. Still a lot of hunters/fishers that go for shear numbers instead of what they can eat. Can’t change some human’s nature.
I just hope that our dog hunters (the responsible ones hunting large tracks) don’t get squished out.

I like the limit on bucks and does. I never shoot more than 2 deer a season anyway.Just wish you didn’t have to pay for them. I predict the prices will get higher for the buck tags in the next few years

The only thing this law will do is make people more selective with the deer they take, meaning they will be more likely to shoot the bigger deer, leaving those little does and scrub bucks alone to procreate. It’s a vicious cycle.

I think if you were selective before, you’ll still be selective. This will just limit the “if it’s brown it’s down” mentality to fewer deer.
They need to do some kind of bounty system. You shoot a coyote, you get another tag.
Truly I also think the only real point of this system is to get a general idea of how many deer are a

That’s a well thought out idea and logical…something tells me this will never be put into law…

They need to do some
Yeah, the doe tags might be kind of tough. We eat four deer a year and having to shoot a buck to get the 4th if you don’t harvest one on a “doe day” might be a problem. All in all its a good deal. Nothing is ever perfect for everyone.
