First Mahi trip with the Nephew and the ocean didn’t play too nice. After a rough ride we stopped on a weed line in 150 and landed a cuda and had a Marlin in the spread for a minute. Decided to leave the line and push out deeper to get away from the group of porpoises that were trolling with us. Not sure if they scare away Mahi or not. Found a weed line/temp break in 600 around noon and landed 4 Mahi until a rainstorm blew everything apart.
Around 2 the Nephew stopped chumming the water and recovered from the ride out and was ready to start fishing. With no luck we ran back to 150 to find the weedline from the morning in a last ditch effort for the Nephew to catch his first Mahi. Couldn’t get the whole spread out until the bird goes off and he puts his first Mahi in the boat. Circled back around for him to add his 2nd one also.
Caught 6 Phins. Downrigger with Red/Black was the money maker.
Congrats so his first and hopefully hooked:sunglasses: for life! Need more young to take on the “saltlife”!!!
Awesome. Love seeing the kids out there. Mine is grown now and we see him a lot more often bc he started at that age and still loves it.
Great report and great catching. I’m sure your Nephew will remember that trip the rest of his life. The color of that cow is beautiful.
That black bean bag doesn’t get to hot! Nice fish, great trip for the young man! Did you get him to help clean the boat?

The boy got lucky and had school the next day so he missed the whole cleaning of the boat and fish. And surprisingly the $15 black bean bags don’t get too hot. A little spray from the salt water wash down and all good.
