Deli report 5/19, yep Monday...

the wx was a bit snotty-just as the wxman had told us it would be. fishing onboard Assure Thing w capt Ben, lt dan and DS, pushed off out of Port Royal Sound at 0600 and ran South to Deli… flying fish from 100’ and thick out to the ledge, in some spots it was more flyers congregated than i’ve ever seen before and some large ones and some little tiny ones. They would bust out, it looked like about a half acre of them… started fishing at 170’ first fish was a blue marlin at 220’… nice healthy fishy around 200-250 lbs… hit a purple and black squitch, came in on it while in about a 7’ roller, we saw him the whole time… he slapped the bait, i dropped it back to him and gave it the 3 snatch move that really pissed him off, he engulfed it, crossed the spread and did some tail walking for us… fight was on. Handed the rod off to Daniel who needed his billfish cherry broken and promised a transom back flip if we did so… we did/he did. mr. blue suit drug us straight offshore about 40 minutes, had to run him down a couple of times. Finally got him off noticed how deep it was and the sea out there was void of life as far as we could see, except for a nosy shark. I screwed up and managed to let the dredge get wrapped around the prop and had to do a little swimming, remind me to put goggles in my gear bag… fished back to 170’ and then to 140’ pecking at the mahi for the rest of the day… ended up w 1 blue, 10 mahi the biggest around 35 lbs, a king and a few of the slimey stinky toothy fishes. Finally got a little wind shift and it laid down a bit around 4 pm… made it back to cpt ben’s dock at 8 pm…long day but a good day. Can’t wait to go again, on a slightly calmer sea. pics to follow…

What a day. Why not me!!! We pulled B/W squitches the day before in the same ocean. Got to remember the drop back/ three=snatch move. Awesome day…congrats on the blue wonder.

Capt Ben,
Congrats on the blue marlin, sounds as if that boat still attracts billfish like it used to. Glad you are able to carry on the tradition.

That was an awesome day, worth getting beat around out there, though the boat made it pretty easy! Thanks to Capt. Ben and Russ for popping my billfish cherry, still can’t feel my left arm, good feeling though! Can’t wait to see some pics. Had a blast with you boys and look forward to fishin with ya’ll again sometime. Thanks again
