Yes I got the InReach one which is text only. Pretty cheap and there was a 50 dollar rebate around Thanksgiving.I had looked into the spot but was discouraged by the lack of service reported but some on the East Coast. I also got the least expensive plan which allows I think 10 texts a month and then you pay per text. It worked well at the Gulf stream around the Deli but Ive only used it once…
I have the inreach se. It’s great, easy to use and holds a charge for a long time. Comes in handy when you need to contact shore for any reason. Nice to have confirmation someone is hearing/receiving you
x3…I use mine a lot, I have the SE and it syncs with my Iphone which makes it easier to text.
I got one last year after my EPIRB misfired and the CG called my wife and scared the crap out of her before we straightened it out on VHF. Worth its weight in gold IMO. Can send messages with ETA home so family can meet at the dock, can receive messages from home if needed, and the tracking feature lets them track you on the web so they can tell where you are and if you are heading in and know you are ok. Mine also serves as a backup GPS. The peace of mind it gives our families is priceless.
