Depthfinder/GPS

Recently purchased a boat and need to get a depth finder/GPS system for it. Problem is there are so many choices and options I don’t know what one I really need. I have a 16 ft center console that I just plan to fish with in the rivers and creeks. I don’t need one with all the bells and whistles but don’t want a cheap one either…anyone have any suggestions or know anyone with one for sell. I’ll gladly buy used if everything works ok.

Depends on how much you want to spend.

I’m a big fan of these…http://www.humminbird.com/Products/HELIX-5-SI-GPS/

I’m also a Humminbird fan. That’s what I would get.

Cant go wrong with a Garmin . Easy to use a very reliable .

X3 on Hummingbird!! I just bought a 800 series HB with structure scan and you can see yout fishing line under the boat!! All the buttons and actions are very simular to a garmin I had making me think they are both produced by the same people… both easy to use!!

Garmin on my boat.
My runner up was the Furuno GP1870f
The Helix 7 Humminbird would’ve been a close call if it had come out a few months sooner.

Rivers and creeks inshore, you’ll be using the chart plotter side of it more than the fish finder side. At least I do. Pick which charts and controls you like best IMO.

I’ve had some of each over the years. I got an Elite5 Hummingbird combo with the DI last year. I love it. Easy to run and navigate the screens. DI is impressive. Pretty good maps of the coast out the box. Only thing was Wateree and Santee are not options if you get the NavGold chip upgrade. Just about every lake around is covered but those two. Still shows lakes just no topo on the lakes. I got it for 299 on sale from Amazon. For the price and features it was a better value than one that had lake topo options.

Saw this at Academy the other day and thought it was priced wrong till I looked it up online. This would do fine for what you are looking for. I have the legacy E-7 before Chirp.

7" screen, Chart plotter, FF w/ Chirp, Down Imaging and includes xducer for $499. I believe this price is good till Oct 31.

I have a Humminbird with side scan and down imaging, and I have a Garmin 541s. The Garmin is a much better chart plotter, but the Bird is a much better sonar. Decide which is more important and let that be your guide. Can’t speak to Lowrance or Furuno.

X2 on h-bird , I’ve got the 798 si,di with switch fire, works great, haven’t loaded lake maps YET !!!

side note::: you can’t go wrong to include thru hull trans instead of
transom mount, much, much better screen clarity,IMO
