Thinking about making a trip to catch some Florida fish. Saw some literature about Destin but have never been there. Was wondering if anyone has had any experience there and best times for inshore, guides, and accommodations.
Thanks for any help you may have…
Me and a few friends booked an offshore trip there back in 2013 but the trip was cancelled due to weather. WE basically hung out and frequented local watering holes and restaurants for a few days.
I would recommend going to the Florida Sportsman forum site. There is a lot of good regional information there.

Thanks for the info…

Been going there every summer for 30+ years. You want inshore or offshore? Check what’s legal offshore right now. Inshore right now is slow.
Thinking about going in the early spring or early fall…mostly interested in inshore, trout, bull reds, snook etc…any advice about guides and accommodations would really be appreciated…and thanks for the response…

Not a whole lot of snook up there if any. I’ve never seen one. I am from that area and fish there once or twice a year.
Check w/ Half Hitch tackle on hwy. 98. They’ll tell you what’s going on.
Inshore fishing is great. Lot’s of shallow water opportunities all around Choctawhatchee Bay. Plenty of redfish and trout.
Fished there off shore several times but that was 30 years ago. Tons of charter boats available.
Good info…thanks!

Home of the Cobia World Championship from March - May. I want to get down there sometime to get after some cobia one day!
On half hitch’s website they have month by month reports that go back years. You can look at whatever month you’re interested in and get a pretty good idea what to expect. I’ve been talking about planning an offshore kayak trip there for years but never pulled the trigger. In the summer they catch mahi, kings, blackfins etc within a couple miles of the beach.
Thanks Justin will definitely take a look…

I have been to Destin several times and found that the west side bank near the Coast Guard station is the best place to catch fish. This spot is at the Destin bridge with lots of parking on the right (as if you were heading to Fort Walton). I fished during the months of June and July getting there around 3PM and fishing into the night. One catch is that you need to wade out up to your waist and fish at least 1/2 oz jig head making long casts. The water is mostly shallow up 50 yards out. Zman white chartreuse, smoky shad, and green white seem to work well but I dont think it matters. You’ll catch 3 - 4 lbs blues until the sun drops. Then the trout and reds will show up in the shallow water so back out towards the bank. Just make sure you have a tight grip on your rod. There are some huge fish that come in at night. Good luck!
