I recently purchased a 25 hp Tohatsu four stroke 2004 carb. model. The boat does not perform good with the 10 pitch prop that came on it. How do I determine the rpms without a tach or can a tach be hooked up and how? Engine seems to run properly otherwise.
I have a tach that will work. It’s extremely accurate, its what you use to calibrate dash gauges. You can use it if you want, but I need some kind of assurance I am going to get it back.
It’s pretty expensive to replace if I have to. I have let people borrow tools hundreds of times without issue. Just last Fall I let someone borrow a Mac vacuum gauge manifold to synch his carbs. He didn’t want to pay to have it done. I don’t know where he lives and his number has been disconnected. He is a real piece of $^&*.

I don’t know where you live, but I am right down the road from the folly landing. I can help you out if you want. Now that my outboard needs a 600$ part and I don’t have it for now, I have spare time.
I have a fine piece of driveway art.

Thanks, I live in Beaufort. After reading some other post I need to take the cowling off and make sure my tiller handle is opening up the carb/throttle wide open. Girlfriend lives in Charleston and I’m up here about every weekend. Let me try a couple of other things and if not successful I’ll be back it touch. Again I appreciate the offer.
