Determining Weather Off Charleston?

Hi ya’ll, I finally got a boat that can handle offshore trips; of course I’ll still have to pick my days. Here’s the thing, I’m new to offshore fishing so I’m curious where to look to determine the weather. I’ve looked on here under the “sciences” tab and read the buoy info, but I don’t know how to interpret it. The site below seems to help a bit though:

Any pointers?

hey dippin…this gets discussed every month or so. You should use the search feature and I bet you can find plenty of old threads on this topic with the info you need. FWIW.

I check them all when im preparing to go

I use this one a bunch for offshore forecasts…along with sailflow.

They make a nice phone app too. This site usually updates after sailflow. For instance the forecast for this Wednesday I heard people talking about went to crap today per sailflow and windfinder just updated to confirm.

Good luck

Winderfinder is amazing. Exactly what I needed. Thanks!

Stormsurf.com is another good one. Waves, Period, wind and other charts to look at. Updates about every 6 hours.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Both of these are pretty good, too. Check as many forcasts as you can and you will learn which ones are good and which ones are not.

Never depend on one, you will turn around at the Jetties, often. Spend some time learning at least 3 weather sites and study them all week and all year. You have a lot of apps that you can look at all week long then go back to the history and see if you or the forecast were right. Me and my boat mates are quite anal about the weather and start looking every Monday and all day all week to find the best weather day to plan a trip. Learn that a NE@10kts on an incoming tide and the same wind on an outgoing flood tide is two very different scenarios!
Sailflow (Greys Reef if rolling south and Chas.Buoy If rolling North) NOAA on CF.com Buoy Info, and Reefcast on SC Offshore are some of the most reliable, If two agree 2 to 3 days in a row we are in, but always keep a weather eye open and be prepared to be flexible, good luck!

If it got any better I couldn’t stand it.
