Pissed me off. If I had my son in the boat I would have kick his ass. No regards for others.

Slim, what if it went the other way and he kicked your ass? or shot you. That would have been something to let your son watch.

Don’t get me wrong, inconsiderate people always tend to aggravate me. I just have realized that it needs to be a pretty big event to fight someone and that would be a last resort.

Take a picture and get his hull I.D. and send it to DNR.

I have come to the point where I don’t get upset about people waking me anymore. It’s a good thing too because I get waked about 5 times a day on the weekends anymore. I just tell my passengers to “HOLD ON that’s gonna be a BIG ONE!!!”.
The truth of the matter is that I don’t think these people are aware of what they are doing. I think it is more a factor of inexperience on the water more than deliberately causing trouble. Towards the late afternoon some of the guys have a few beers in them. They may be driving a little faster then they should. We are all trying to have fun out there. Try to keep a cool head and be calm. I know this can be hard at times but its not worth getting high blood pressure over.

I realized some time back that when I get all majorly PO’d over something it ruins my whole day, or at least a good part of the experience, while the offending party most often just moves on with their own. That means I’ve given them this ridiculous power over me and my emotions. I do my best not to let that happen as long as there’s no serious damage done.
I try to be respectful on the water and in life, but lets face it, chances are I’ve fouled someone at some time without even knowing it.
I just figure it’ll all come out in the wash.

I think you are exactly right.

I think you are exactly right too. Ain’t nothing but a thing. If you can’t handle a wake, well… but it will never be mine, I’ll slow down for you.

I have to respectfully disagree with you. You only have to be in a boat for a single day to realize that the wake from even a modest size boat can cause a lot of havoc for any other vessel nearby.

I think most of these events happen largely because people are just too impatient and inconsiderate to give a (**() about others on the water. It’s just arrogance and greed.

Sure, there are some who are ignorant of the fact that their wake is a hazard to others, but I cannot believe that it’s most of them.

I fish with my son in a 14’ jon boat. I can’t even fish in the ditch at the Hatchery, or the small river at Cypress Gardens, or the modest sized creeks behind Sullivan’s Island without taking on a gallon of water from the jackasses that refuse to idle past a much smaller vessel. It happens on every trip, there’s at least one who passes well within casting distance at nearly WOT, or even worse, plowing the water not on plane.

If this were happening to me in the harbor, or in the main ICW, then I have only myself to blame for having such a small vessel out in water where the big fish swim. But in the creeks and smaller rivers that I fish in, there’s no excuse that is acceptable, except perhaps you have a nest of hornets chasing you. That I suppose I could forgive.

i have fished in a 8 ft. Walker bay for years, due to my fascination with sailboats, 14 ft. jon boat all my childhood, and a 12 ft. skiff that I couldn’t wait to get rid of, but never remember getting upset over other boats wakes. I have gotten aggravated at myself when mother nature whips my butt for 60 miles at a time, but then I remember it’s not my fault, it was the weather guessers fault. Boy, I’ve been upset with him. That’s my wife’s fault for not having me in a bigger boat. Like Dorado said,{ hold on, it’s gonna be a big one.} It’s your day, don’t let anyone ruin it.

The big turnoff for me comes in the fall and winter, when I’m fishing freshwater, for perch or deep schooling stripers. If I throw back a small perch and it doesn’t sink the gulls will start diving trying to pick it up. Then about every boat in sight will come running and gunning to throw their baits almost in my boat, thinking they’re throwing to fish schooling near the surface. Needless to say they rock the heck out of the boat, spook the fish, and ruin my chances to catch fish in that previously good spot. That’s OK because I’ve now learned both the cracker and the popcorn trick. Just throw out a bunch of either, away from the spot you plan to fish, and watch the guys run and gun to fish for crackers and popcorn. Some guys never learn to approach fish quietly and stay a long cast away to keep from spooking them.
