Ran out of Dewees Inlet Saturday morning, no problem. Coming back in around noon on the outgoing, however, there were rollers all over my usual route. Two other boats were likewise stopped, doing the same thing as us – nosing around, looking for the way in. I tried a little cut near the middle that I know, but chickened out after having to turn into a big roller. Anyone know if the channel moved significantlly in the past 2 weeks or was it just a product of the ripping outgoing tide and the SSW wind, which had picked up considerably? I have been in and out there a lot this summer and while it’s always moving, my routes have been solid.
One guy did eventually get through, very impressive, but I was too far away to see where he cut in.
I was one of the three. Ended up running through Capers inlet but that was sketchy too. I bumped bottom once. Real puckered up there for a couple minutes. I’ve never had trouble getting through either of those inlets at low.
Scary stuff, glad y’all made it. Been on many a ride though there, I hate seeing those numbers go to low single digits.

OccamsRaiser, we watched you zip through Capers, to say we were impressed would be an understatment. We couldn’t figure out how you did that and we were not going to try it – looked like you skipped right over the bar.
Any sense if Dewees has changed significantly or if was just a weird confluence of wind and that big tide?

There was a negative tide that day, but still seems like there should have been a couple feet of water left. Looked like solid breakers everywhere to me at Dewees. I saw a small opening at Capers and went for it. Not something I’d care to do again. My buddy had to get back for the Hank Williams Jr. show. Otherwise I would have waited until the tide came back in some!
I’m telling you Cap, that day, the green and red trails were breakers at low. The lines to the south were dry. Never seen anything like it. Not that I’m an expert by any stretch but I’ve been through that inlet at dead low many times.
