Hey guys…wanted opinions regarding whether or not the 16’ boat pictured here could handle the water, on a reasonably calm day, on either inlet side out at Dewee’s Island…I’ve been in that area once but forget if the water is too rough…thanks.

Nope it’s way to dangerous to take boat that small into the salt water. You should probably just get rid of it. I’ll be happy to take it off your hands!
Ha…thanks GW…bought it new back in April and have been adding bells and whistles since then between two deaths in the family and my dad’s brain surgery. All done now (the pic was taken after I picked it up) and ready for some fishing/gigging therapy.
So, how about beaching this boat in the Dewees inlet? Beaching/arriving while tide is dropping and leaving when tide is rising…stern to shore and bow facing out like everyone else? I wasn’t sure since it’s only a 16’ boat…
I’ve taken my Hobie outside Dewees inlet a couple of times on nice days . Big redfish and sharks on the kayak is tons of fun! Unfortunately, after getting caught in one of our summer thunder storms, having the pedal system snap as I paddled in attempt to flee the oncoming lightning, and battling 3-4 foot chop I will not do it again (lie: I will probably paddle out to Morris island for a long weekend to camp out and do some surf fishing this fall). It can go from nice to really dicey when the tide starts to move. Definitely doable though
Sounds like a blast Red…I’m wanting to get out there and fish the troughs for flounder…but ill happily bust the cordless filet knife out for a fat red. I just want to be sure I beach/anchor this boat correctly so I can fish and not have to babysit the boat. Ive read quite a bit about anchoring on a beach but I’m not sure how that works out with a boat this small. It’s small but big enough to be a pain should it get grounded at low tide.
I have a 16’ Lowe jon boat, almost identical to the one in your picture, that i take up to Dewees/Capers almost every weekend with the wife and dog. As long as you stay inside the ocean, you will be fine. With a slow moving tide, you can just pull it up on the beach…but the problem with aluminum is that is very light so once the wind/waves/tide starts to move, the boat goes with it. I carry 2 anchors and set a few feet off the sand. You should have no problem.
