Looking to run out to the capers reef and go out of Dewees inlet. I’ve heard stay rsouth with the beach for a little bit before turning out? Is that right? Anyone run out of it recently? I usually keep my boat at IOP when I’m down and it would be a lot easier to go out of it. I would be in the bay boat in my signature
Like Fritz said…read the water. There is a sandbar that runs pretty much straight out from Dewees…you’ll see the breakers. A parasail boat runs south after IOP and plays around, but there are shoals farther out from IOP…you’ll see waves stacking up. You’ll run between the breakers and where waves stack up on that shoal. It’ll still be pretty skinny water.

Upstateyakker did you make it? We ran out and then back in through Dewees Saturday en route to G’town Hole in a 26 regulator. Only tricky part was shooting the gap between the bar in the middle and the shoals (as Claim mentioned) after you sort of make the turn East just past the red roof condo on IOP. We ran a little farther south than I normally do before making our turn East and to be honest, without the backtrack on the garmin, I wouldn’t have gone as far south on the return. Not sure that was necessary. Lowest we marked on way in was about 3 feet, but it was just past low on a rising w/ no breakers so we felt OK. Harder coming in than out because it was blowing like hell by then and harder to read. It is really easier on a morning low b/c it’s easiest to pick your way through.
I meant next weekend as in June 3-4 coming up. Sorry for the confusion. I’ll be down this weekend and weather permitting, will try it. Thanks for the tips on it!!
