I have a tree stand in the small woods behind my house and every year a bunch of doggers hunt the woods across the road from my place. The dogs jump the road and run all over my property. Twice I was watching deer from my stand and the dogs came in and ran them off. It takes several days for the deer to return. I have caught dogs in my yard several times and contacted the owner (same owner) and asked him to try to restrain his dogs. I informed him the land was posted (in case he can’t read the signs). His response was “dogs can’t read”. I called the DNR once and by the time they got there the doggers had moved on. He explained to me that there isn’t much he can do. I’m at my whits end with this bunch.
when u catch the dogs on your property, after asking several times and only getting sarcastic remarks, take the dogs to the SPCA and drop them off
after the doggers have to pay to get them back a couple times they will start reining in their dogs…
most of the dog hunters I’ve hunted with are a PITA, they’ll run all over their own standers to get in front of the deer their dogs get on… tell the standers to stay on their stand while they race around in trucks heading them off, and u wonder why most dog guys get more of the deer…
it’s an out of hand thing I wouldn’t even call a sport, been there done that and seen it way too many times… they either collectively need to learn respect for others or the GA needs to ban it IMHO
NDD, there is no way you will ever keep dogs on a tract 100% of the time unless it is fenced! period…
That statement is not 100% correct Sir. you want to see dogs that will NOT get off the property, then go to Middleton Place Plantation, the dog drivers ride horseback and know how to train dogs, it is one of the best hunts you can go on. (If you get an invitation)
You even wear a tie while you hunt.
Going to Church doesn’t make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.
You are the offspring of 5 monkeys having But Secs with a retarded fish squirrel. CONGRADULATION!!!
This is a deer hunt you speak of haz?? On horseback , wearing ties??

Middleton, old school deer hunting at its finest. The original way of killing deer in our fine state. One of the last of a dying breed .

You don’t know what you’re talking about. It’s a moderately expensive club but that’s because it’s good land close to town and they have to pay their professional drivers/dog handlers plus a relatively expensive lease on two plantations. Your class warfare “elite super wealthy” BS is something you conjured up in your own mind. Political correctness? Where’d you come up with that? You obviously don’t know what you’re spouting off about.

Been on plantations all my life, I know much more than you assume. I think the rich hunts are great and you don’t see much lower society on them i.e. elite. If you don’t think that political correctness in the society of the wealthy plays apart in things you are fooling yourself. You are the one spouting off B.S. Class “warfare” your funny to assume that. I’d be punching myself in the nose.
I used to hunt right behind Middleton, Hanahan and Milbrook Plantations. I’ve seen the guys ride by me with the horses, whips and dogs. That area in there is money! Well, except for all the hogs that are in there now. Don’t get much better than hunting in those places that havent been logged repeatedly. It’s pretty back there.
Have you ever hunted at Middleton or do you know even one person who does? You are so far off base it’s ridiculous.
Yes I have and I know several who still do. Again you assume too much, you don’t know me. No it is you that is off base.
So answer me this what is considered “moderately” expensive? I can tell you unless you put in a personal request with some very good references or you know someone, you won’t be on the club.
One more question what am I so far off base on? go ahead if your right I’ll give you my full apology and admit to anything you can prove me wrong on. I have no problem being proved wrong, I’m human and subject to err.
A last question, if you dare. What do you think about dog hunting, everywhere else but Middleton Place?
If you truly ever hunted there, there is no way you could have come away with the impression that it is a club of “Elite super wealthy”. Your characterization of the club is so far from reality that it is doubtful you ever hunted there. If you have several friends who still hunt there, why are you asking me what the dues are? Furthermore, if your host knew you were painting such a picture of the club on a public forum, it is unlikely you’ll ever get to hunt there again.

So your saying the club is for the average joe? It in no way depicts 99% of hunters through history. What is your reality of hunting? I’m not bashing it in the least, I think it’s neat, but it is not what the common man does or can afford to do.
He said Original(which i am sure is short of originally.) Obvisiously the average wage earner can’t afford a club like that still or dog hunting. His point is correct that back in the day it was a lot more acceptable to hunt anything. Of course that is not the case today. I think everyone understands what he meant. No need to get upset about it. Bottom line in this topic, the facts are dog hunting for deer is on the way out. If doggers were smart they would ask for tougher laws. end of story.
lot’s of people without money are out of touch, but then they don’t usually have access or don’t want access to the “finer” things in life.
Partner ship you ever hunted Middlton place with Palmetto bug? I’ll give those privileged folks that do hunt there it’s a fine sport they promote among themselves.
Edit, if dog hunting is ever banned I truly hope place like this will be exempt. They are above and beyond anything a common hunter could hope to accomplish on a budget.
No. Never hunted there. I grew up rather poor. Got lucky and became #1 pool salesman in the world and then wrote a book, videos, etc.
I now have a life i never dreamed of. I have a nice boat, 171 acres of hunting paradise, a house on the water where I catch trout, flounder, and reds off my dock, and get to travel the world teaching my system.
I am still the guy I was when I was poor.
My favorite times are being alone in the swamp at sunrise waiting for that 10 pointer to appear.
That is also the reason I have had issues with dog hunters. I don’t care what hunters do on their property. It is theirs to do QDM or dog hunt. My problem is when it interferes with my hunting methods on my property.
My first hunt in Charleston area years ago was ruined by dog hunters on opening day after my buds and I worked for months getting property ready. The guy walking down our road said that he was only looking for his dog which was bullxxxx.
Hunting, fishing, and poker are my sports. Work when necessary.
Partnership you are telling the story of many, many landowners regarding deer dogging. Anyone who hunts in the low country have them and landowners like myself have tons of them, only problem is we pay for the right to have dogs trespass all over us and there is nothing we can do about it. I know you doggers are reading these posts and you know there is and has been a huge problem for DECADES. Keep doing nothing and your sport will disappear. Ask for REALLY TOUGH LAWS(not the Renegade Hunter Act BS kind of laws) and that might save it. Where are you doggers? Just sitting there ignoring the problem I am sure as usual. Keep on doing that and hoping the good ole boys will live forever and protect you. Ask the folks that used to dog hunt Sonoco land how that worked out for them…
