If I recall correctly, Dachau was a prison, and, never a “death/concentration camp” as tanksgt described? No disrespect to tanksgt!! That’s why I think Allegory, and Folk Lore, go a long way in clouding the historical truth, in these matters?
Dachau was supposed to house 3500-4000 POW’s, but had as many as 50,000, at one point, surviving, or not, on the rations of 5000/day. They were starving to death. It had two crematoriums, capable of cremating 12 bodies each, daily.
Once Dachau was liberated, by the U.S. the death rates increased, yet the new deaths were attributed to the Germans.
I don’t know the actual numbers, any more than you do. I do think that they were artificially inflated, as my comments on the numbers on the Auschwitz, Holocaust Memorial Plaque, being lowered by several million.

Yesterday from 4:30-6:00 we had 62 birds with 8 of us shooting. I got 8 and only went through 14 shells better than normal for me. I’m better with quail than dove. My son got his 12 with only 2 misses. I helped put up 1/4 mile of dove line thursday and friday for an area we will hunt later this year. I’m lucky to know a few people that let me tag along on some private hunts. I actually prefer to watch doves over shooting them. Getting sentimental as I grow older.
