Spruce Pine is a mining community in the mountains of NC. The Bon Ami mine there produced feldspar to make stuff like bon ami cleaner, ajax, 20 mule team borax, and things like that.
In the course of mining feldspar many other minerals and precious stones were discovered, and these veins of different composits can be seen in the old mine using lights of varying wavelengts.
Opal is greenish, ruby reddish, sapphire blueish, and so on.
