Dirty Crabs

Got a whole mess of crabs in the trap right now, but a few of them are a little overgrown with algae and the color is a little off. Anyone ever had any trouble eating these?

Those are the best ones, full of meat usually.

Old rustys – the best!

The white bellys are empty

Send them over to my house and I’ll test them out for you. Can’t be too careful.

I don’t eat the outside of the crab, so I think you’re good

Where is the best place to soak a crab pot down in Charleston Bay or the Wando River?

Those crabs with the old shell, barnacles&algae are the best! The ones with the shiny new shells have recently molted and are “poor”, not much meat on them.

I’ve been catching so many I’ve started throwing them back in front of demetre park. I imagine the bull redfish are in there as well eating all the crab.

I’m sure I know the answer to this, but has anyone have their crab pot stolen? Had mine in for a day and gone the next. Extremely frustrating. I respect everyone’s property, it’s amazing how low people can be. Any suggestions how to deter this? I’ve heard the treble hooks in the line, but not sure I can do that.

They get pulled off by the current more then they get stolen, dnr told me once they find a lot of them drifted off

I’m certain this wasn’t a current issue

A friend used to put hooks in the line because we had so many stolen . That would put a hurt on someone .

Did you have a yellow float on it? And do you have all the appropriate information on the float? If not Dnr took your trap
