Does anyone believe the “dirty” water out to 50-100’ (off Charleston) impairs the resolution from new Sonar technology such as StructureScan, downVu, etc.? If so is there a remedy other than going somewhere else to fish?
Seeing incredible screen shots from other places and hope it works that well here. I’m about to order the stuff.
I don’t know about in deeper water, but it works great in shallower water when its dirty. I could get great images in the congaree river and it’s as dirty/muddy as they come.
I tested the last boat we rigged with the hummingbird side scan.
drove it under the james island connector bridge by the marina.
water was as dirty as it gets around here.
clearly showed pilings going in to mud bottom on both sides
Does well at all the nearshore reefs. Great for locating bottom relief well away from under the boat. However I still haven’t learned how to tune iIt so well I get the detail seen on screenshots from the freshwater bass guys.
Saves time finding structure - worth it just for that. Mines on a 16 ft boat so haven’t ventured past the various nearshore reefs.
Saw some images taken from the Charleston 60. Super detail.
Have seen lake images from 40’ with the water so muddy you couldn’t see a white bucktail 6" below the surface, pretty impressive detail. I don’t think dirty water has any effect.
