With the heat dieing down and the summer boaters packing it in I decided it was time to pay my boat taxes and get the new Clemson colored boat stickers all the cockheads are so fond of. Since I put the new stickers on I decided to do a evening trip. Put in at 6 and left at 8, caught a few trout but missed a bunch. I went with the mirror lures vs finger mullet on popping cork. The back creek spot I like to fish was dead high still and looked like a toilet that couldn’t flush. It was tough because nearly every cast you’d hang sticks and stuff but aft 4 or 5 quick cast you’d have a line to fish. When I started to think they weren’t there after about four cast I’m zoned out thinking about movinh and get slammed on the mirror lures and it’s a very healthy 16incher. The popping cork quietly disappeared while releasing the trout and caught a little 11 incher. The popping cork kept getting little trout hits that couldn’t eat the finger mullet. Then a 12 guage goes off and my cork shoots under like I’ve never seen. I missed the fish but it was the hardest hit I’ve ever seen in a back creek, it got my heart racing. Probably fished 40 minutes total and smaller live bait would of thoroughly be of out fished the mirror lures.
Look at that sludge this fish came out, I think I found the end of the creek.
The mullet seemed to come to the surface more once it went dark. But no blow ups. Most bait raises to the surface at night. Topwaters and shallow running baits may be good at night.
The best decision I made was bringing boots to launch with.
