Disposal of old ammo...

The fluorescent bulb topic reminded me of this… Let’s say you have some old ammo that is rusted up, maybe been sitting in your garage for 10 years in the humidity. You don’t want to put it through your gun, but you know it’s not safe to put in the trash can. What’s the best place to dispose of it in Charleston?

You might try local law enforecemnt. They may either take it from you or tell you how/where they dispose of stuff they confiscate.

I take it down to the nearest fire station. Never had them say “no”!

How many rounds you talking? Any parts salvageable? Why can’t you throw it in the trash?

I gave some to our local sheriffs office that was old and turning green, they were happy to take it.

Probably a few dozen... I don't want to put potential explosives in the trash...

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Put it in a box and write BOMB on it and leave it on a mail box! Someone will be along shortly, to take care of it for you [:0] Oh yeah, wear a hoodie when you do it:smiley:

What caliber? I can pull the projectiles and use the propellant to fertilize the rose bushes. Can reuse everything except primer and powder.

12 gauge!

I had some old 12 gauge stuff I wasn’t comofrtable shooting so I cut the top of the shell off (kept the lead), poured the powder in a can of water and then fired the shells in an old single barrel. Then you can throw away with no worries. Just a thought.

This sums up my issue right here...

Just do what Dfreedom suggested except use the powder for plant fertilizer.
