What’s the best way to dispose of old expired flares?
Practice with them in the event you actually need to use one by lighting up a bonfire.
Next time you go out, fire them up!
I think you can take them to a fire department or to coast guard station.

I will take them off your hands
if you would like. Good starter
for brush piles here in the country.
I had a bunch I accumulated over the years and finally got around to use them. The hand held flares I struck off and dropped them in a bucket of water, they still burn, and burn for a while! I grabbed a smoke flare and lit it off. Dropped it in the bucket. For a while,my house, the neighbors house, and two other houses were orange. Those things really make the smoke. I started shooting the 12 gauge flares off, only about half fired, and they barely did more than a bottle rocket. Really disappointed in their performance. I had 5 bags of the small hand held flare launchers, the ones where you pull the chain to set them off, only two worked, and they had had just run out of date. A bottle rocket really outperformed these things, hell a sparkler would outperform these. Lessons learned, if you feel the need for launched flares, buy the 30 mm ones. Full size hand held flares and smoke(especially the smoke), work pretty good. The only good the small chain pull flares are good for is to keep you from getting a ticket while they are in date
Keep them on the boat. Better to have a few extras that are expired to go with your new ones. It might get be 50/50 if they work but so might the non expired ones.
