Dove one of my bottom numbers Sunday in 75 ft I’ve been wanting to try for a while. left James Island 10:30 am and we were on the bottom by noon. No other boats in sight besides those running past us. Pleasantly surprised live bottom, reminded me of sugar bowl in 90 ft if any of you have dived that with circular sandy depression surrounded by reef…real nice… also some other 10’x10’ live bottom patches spread out in the sand…saw plenty of fish, including triggers, grouper, schoolies, and no lionfish here. Speared 3 sheepshead, missed a couple grouper. By rod/reel caught 2 grouper, kept 8 seabass, and 2 grunts. Vis was about 30 ft on bottom with decent current on top. First time shooting speargun as I have only used a sling and pole freediving before. By the looks of the cleaning table at JI yacht club, lots of bottom fish of all varieties were caught Sunday, all caught “not very far.”
