Coming around the bend Sunday afternoon. I typically run near the right bank. See a boat anchored on the bank so vear off to the left giving them some extra room. As I look closer the boat has a tiny red flag??? Diver??? oh crap! that’s a dive flag!. Do a full hard shutdown from 55mph, engine braking, motor is popping and pissed off.
I look to my left and there the idiot is. Dark head bobbing in the water, then he holds up a little orange stick.
If I had continued on my path he would have been prop dust.
Note to divers, you want to dive the river? The support boat needs to be close, very close.
Dive flag should be the tallest thing in the boat. Your flag was on the side of the console and only visible behind the guy standing next to it.
Dive boat should not be tucked up to the bank on a inside bend. No one can see you!
Picked up a very nice lady today on the river (red star). Dressed in all black with orange flippers.
Said she had been sitting on the bank of the river for over an hour just waiting for me to come by and sweep her up out of the mud.
Safely delivered back to the support boat. He was relieved to say the least.

I believe they are hunting Megalodon teeth. Seems to be pretty common in the Cooper river. Have seen them at several of the bends.
There is another boat that carries several divers at a time, this was just 2 people (driver and diver).
A diver died just a month or so ago in the Cooper looking for shark’s teeth. Never came back to the dive charter boat. Murky water, strong current and big gators…NO Bueno.
Once you get down on the bottom, it is near impossible to stay with someone; but you should! I’ve been down on several area rivers and it’s fun as heck! But, you do have to watch what’s around and above you to get back up. I’ve seen big huge catfish with blue crabs in their mouths, ran up on a sturgeon in Cooper River, found lots of indian artifacts and many sharks’ teeth, gathered lots of fishing gear including nice danforth anchors and sinkers. This time of year is great because the rivers are much clearer for Oct-Dec. I also tow a small red/white float on 30’ of line. Might help me get my dead ass back up top someday.
