Diving 8-17

We left SUPER late (10:00am) went out to 110’ and 90’ to find some hogs dove four different numbers for a boat total of 11 dives. We had some new guys learning to fish from Bermuda Triangle Dive Shop in Ashville, NC, Mike B and Mike M all came home with some hogfish (a whole boat of Mikes). I don’t know what happened to the lobster spotters, but they were not doing their job. After shooting his first big SC hog, Mike proceeded to “let” his trigger-fish bite him all over but the pain is worth the trigger-burgers and nothing eats like captain crunch hogfish…It got sloppy on the way back but the Apex Predator took it like a champ and we were home at shem creek at 4:30. Vis was 30’ on bottom at the best dive, 20’ on the worst (and shallowest). Fought an incoming tide going out, and an outgoing tide coming in, so we burned a lot, but bigger grouper are starting to show up in 100’ (71-73F). The seabass are studs and thick everywhere (85-130), as well as lionfish. Check out Mikes Hogzilla on our FB page - facebook.com/lowcountryscba. Planning on running North this weekend in search of the evasive lobster, please let me know if you want to fish or dive!

Vic its weird that you couldn’t find the lobster. Last time out we filled the boat with lobster but couldn’t buy a hogfish. I guess every dive is different and that is what keeps it interesting. It also is understandable that since hogs eat lobster, an area thick with hogs might be picked clean of lobster. Glad you had a good day out.

30 feet of vis? Sounds much better than what we found last saturday. Thanks for the report!

Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!

Had 100 ft of vis where I was at.

In a 170’? its always clearer out there this time of year. Vis got worse as the tide came out, but never got less than shoot-able. Jordan there were legs as carpaces everywhere, like a molting graveyard or something, but i guess the Hogs were eating well.
