Diving Friday 11/9

I wasn’t planning on putting up a report but since no one else did i felt the need to stress two important parts of local diving right now. Terrible Vis and Terrible Current. Hopefully that will change soon but friday was hands down worst of the year. I was not expecting that and in my gameplan that was the only part that could possible turn the planned good trip bad. Regardless of the current we did fine finding the fish and took care of business as usual. Photo here is Kevins personal best Gag at 26lbs on boga grip. Hopefully current and vis will get better but don’t cry if you thought you missed something awesome this past weekend.

Thanks for posting…i had to be out of town this weekend and was seriously considering crying after looking at the buoy saturday! Sorry conditions werent better for you but glad i don’t have to weep!

Go figure we went out Saturday and the vis was better than 80% of the times i have been out… Had 40 feet plus vis on one dive and the worst it was all day was around 20…

OK…what depths are we talking about here?

Airbus i talked with other divers that went a different direction and btn us we covered 40 miles N-S off charleston- i think a dirty eddy had pushed in as we saw several fishable looking rips and current never stopped all day- if you diving off beaufort then you had much better/different water than us- Airbus were ur dives productive?

Charles,
you must have been in a dirty rip. Viz up north was 60-80 ft. Getting chilly though! Just picked up a new Waterproof 7 mil Swedish Suit. Awesome.

Charles,

In that heavy current, do you just hunker down and motor through it (using LOTS of air)?

I was looking at the charts and as a result we went south of SC. Dove in 70-90 feet. Caught a small cobia on a jig followed by bull reds on cut bait. Dropped in on first dive vis was 40 plus huge school of bull reds. Strong current lots of fish. Productive? Yes

Found some uncharted structure way over 7 miles from nearest charted reef… real cool

Dove one of our local spots on way back and there was significantly less life present…

Cool vid! Thanks for the link. What’s up with passing on the gags? Not legal off GA???

PS: If a fly lost it’s wings, would it be called a walk?

We already had our limit. Of course some commercial guy probably wiped the whole reef clean today

JimIslander- i have big fins- try and use current to advantage when hunting and just deal with it best as possible i guess and try NOT to use more air!

Thanks Charles. I used to work dredging gold on the Mokelumne River. In heavy current we would just tie up to a boulder.
