Obtained my advanced certification two months ago and am planning to head out to the Betsy Ross next weekend with two friends from out of town. Would like to talk with someone for a few minutes about water clarity, current, sharks, etc. I have never dived off of SC coast so any information would be helpful. Please let me know if you would be willing to chat with me for a few minutes by emailing me at atwombley@gmail.com or reply to this post. Thanks in advance for any help.
Supposedly a big tiger or 2 like to hang out around there. I don’t dive, but have heard stories…a few from reputable people.
Let me know if you see any.

No telling what is going to happen to the vis after this weather calms down. Just have to get out there and see or check the dive reports here and charlestondiving.com . Seems a Lot of people getting into diving lately.

Rob ; it your fault that there are more diving . #1 look at all the models you are posting on this site. #2 look at all those nice bugs you are posting. #3 look at all those nice Hog fish you are posting. Need I go on. If you were not so good at what you are doing it might not be so crowded. Good job keep up on #1 please.

I’m surprised you found a wetsuit small enough to fit you Napoleon. Will your little Key West with a single screw make it that far and back? Seriously…do have an EPIRB and a guardian angel?
Short grass and tight lines, make a man feel so fine!
I tried Emailing you but not sure if it went thru.
We dive the Ross quite a bit but hanv’t dove it since May. Its a great dive when vis is good but summer usually brings bad vis at the Ross. If you dive it, do it at high tide–better vis at that time.
We dove the North Hole area last Sunday and vis was excellent. We stopped by the Ross on the way back to see if we could spot any Spade Fish on the surface. The water looked very good at that time however – no telling what this storm has Churned up out there.
One more thing–the sharks are more prevelant at the Ross in the Summer but we have never experience any problems with them. I’d be more worried about the Rays. Last May they were loaded all around the Ross–some of them Huge. In poor visibility swimming close to the bottom I surely wouldn’t want to swim up on one and startle it.
Not trying to scare you–just be careful and be safe.
Good Luck and lets us know the results if you decide to go.
