Diving on the Comanche again 3/13

We headed out diving again this weekend on the Comanche. The buoy reported 3’ at 12s all day with a surface temp of 62 deg. LIES. It was more like 3-4’ at 6s all day. The surface temp was 55 and the bottom temp was a chilly 53 deg. I only took a few pictures because I couldn’t really feel my hands after a few minutes.

There were lots of stinging jellies at about 15-30’ that made the safety stop really suck. I think everyone ended up getting stung. At least it was cold enough that I couldn’t tell I was stung until I got on the boat and my lips went numb.

It was neat seeing the little tuny or skip jack tearing up the sardines. There were two sand tigers resting on the bottom sand but I didn’t get any pictures.

Intentionally anchored on the wreck? Any problems getting it off?

Did you really ask this??

.

NMFS = No More Fishing Season

“Back home we got a taxidermy man. He gonna have a heart attack when he see what I brung him”

I did…I figured the divers don’t come up with the anchor in hand. Then again, I’m not a diver thus the question. I understand that if it was hung they could dive down to release it. More curious if they intionally anchor onto the wreck or if that’s just how it happened that day…

Yes we can send a diver to recover a stuck anchor. We actually ended up needing to send someone back down to get it because in the process of pulling the anchor it slid off of the wheel house and became firmly planted into the railing. The salvaged anchor that I had tied onto it during my dive didn’t help the retrieval either.

No lionfish. Too early in the year.

Yeah we were in the cat. It was nice to see another boat out there.

When I dive, I always want to throw my anchor right into the middle of the wreck or where ever I am diving. Makes finding the wreck easy stuff in bad viz. When I get down there I move it into the sand first thing so I know I can retrieve it after getting back on the boat.

Real divers don’t anchor!

In a good current this would be difficult wouldn’t it unless someone on the boat gave you slack?

The 3 to

There is no such thing as a stupid question… just stupid peop…

Insert Funny Line Here

That was a real exciting trip. Lots of sardines all over the wreck. So many, you couldnt even see the ship. Saw some Bonitos taking advantage of the sardines as well.

We also saw a couple of Mola Mola (sunfish), couple of Sand Tigers and an Atlantic Spotted Dolphin.

It was an awesome trip and I hope we can get out further to whitness some more palegic type events.

Somebody told me spadefish were only here during the summer…apparently he was wrong. Can you catchem during the winter/spring?

To my knowledge no one has figured out how to catch them in the winter. They seem to stop eating and swim around wrecks until the water warms up.
