Has anyone had any experience diving or has dove around the Murrells Inlet Jetties?
I may be coming up in the next couple weeks and was wondering if it would be a waste of time to bring my diving gear and try to dive the jetties from the Garden city side from the hill to try to get some fish for the dinner table for my wife and I.
Thanks for any and all replies.
I know nothing about diving but seems visibility would be almost zero. Its not very deep either.

A friend told me he had a bull shark chase him up on the rocks there while gigging flounder at the jetties once, have seen some big tigers there also.
I ask due to the fact that I have never really heard of anyone diving the jetties there and a few years ago when I was there on vacation and we were fishing about 30 feet away from the jetties the water was so clear you could literaly see the bottom. I understand that that is most likely a true once in a Blue Moon occurance to have water that clear that close to shore.
I was just wanting to see if anyone had firsthand or secondhand knowledge of diving the jetties.
Thanks for the replies so far also, y’all.

knew a woman in grad school about 6 years ago who was researching sea whip corals- she put on scuba gear and sampled them at the base of the rocks on the south jetty while i stayed up on the rocks. it was right next to the spot that sailboat went down last year (this year?). she kept telling me about how many flounder she saw while down, but i couldn’t convince her to take my knife and stick a couple to the bottom!
People dive the jetty here. You just have to watch the tides to find the best Viz. I prefer the last 2 hours of the rising. A very small poll spear will do. Anything larger and it gets tough with the low viz. I’d caution you to only go during the week. The weekend will be full of people ready to run you over. Also bring a good knife to cut-away all the fishing line. Good luck.

Yellabird, I am waiting on that invite.
Thanks for the information barbawang and yellabird. Hopefully I will get to dive there sometime this summer and try to get me some doormats. Also, Yellabird, I mainly use a polespear due to the ease of use and the ability to quickly reload and keep shooting. Comes in handy when you come up on a big school of fish and have a small shooting window.
