I’m attempting to save a few bucks and just make my own. I have been looking at solid plastic(resin) rods. I think 3/4" diameter would be girthy enough to hold my 19’ fiberglass boat in place. Let me just say my main use for it will be anchoring at morris or sandy point for those family days on the water. I found a solid resin rod made by Delrin that comes in a 8ft length and a UHMW made by Tivar that comes in a 10ft length. I haven’t been able to physically hold either to see what they are like but they each weigh approx. 2 pounds and are basically the same price ($40ish). i plan to shave one end to be pointed and put a handle on the other end. If anyone one has ever dealt with these resins before any ■■■■■■■■ would be appreciated. The 8ft might fit in my gunnel rod holder so that would be a plus although i could cut either down to fit. Figure this is place for advice/■■■■■■■■
We have done a handful of group buys for the poles before. I think 8 or 10 ft? cant remember. I might even have one or two in my garage if you need one-
A company in ATL makes them cheap but shipping is $$ - search for the thread and you might find more info
Thanks PM sent. I tried a search but didn’t find much maybe i didn’t use the right keywords

Just my .02, but I don’t think I would feel comfortable using a stick anchor as my primary anchor anywhere that there could be a decent amount of current. I use mine primarily on the flats (at the upper or lower end of the tides), or I’ll use it as a stern anchor to keep the boat from swinging around.
That being said, I have heard of people using fiberglass rods from Tractor Supply or something. I went ahead and purchased one – I figure I’d be 40-50 bucks into one (plus my time sourcing materials and grinding the tip and making the handle), so it was worth the $80 to me to buy a pre-made one with a nice contoured handle, lanyard and everything included.

We’ve used a fairly long piece of bamboo (10-12’). We cut one end on an angle, no handle but it worked well for us. Didn’t cost anything other then the line to tie it off with.
Unless its super calm and/or no other boats nearby i will be using it as a stern anchor to keep the boat from swinging as you stated along with a regular anchor from the bow. If i can more than cut that $80 in half with a little resourcefulness to me it’s worth it.

10’ solid fiberglass rod from granger was only +/- $20 when I bought mine. Added a CPVC tee with two short pieces for a handle and I had less than $30 in it. Works like a champ.
even simpler is an 8 ft galvanized grounding rod from one of the home improvement stores, plus a galvanized d-ring and 10 ft of dock line. Drill a whole in the top of the rod, insert the d-ring, attach dock line; $20 tops…and it holds in everything. I’ve used it in up to 5ft of water and all the regular currents/winds. It holds so well, sometimes it will be really hard to remove from the mud!
