DNR Cobia Survey in Beaufort / Hilton Head folder

Thought I’d expose this to folks who don’t read that folder.
Not sure how to move the link.

Done and worried! Got your back ‘backlash’.

We fish offshore and have caught / seen more this year than in the past 10 years combined!

Maybe the cobia have found food else where (think about the YFT…) and are not really in a decline. Any authorities seeking increased numbers of them anywhere up or off the coast? Can’t just let them slam the door.

Any changes in the water quality in the area they used to thrive in? That’s a can of worms we’ll never be privy to!

It sucks for the Broad River folks, but there are a ton of cobia offshore. I really hope DNR does not overreact to this. I’m in favor of a separate set of regulations for the Broad River. The rest of the state is fine the way it is.

Bingo, NC, i think the state will do the right thing. It’s when the Feds get involved that things go to chit!!! IMO

On a side note, I sure am ready for this hot azz summer to get over!!!

Have a good one,

The state only sets regulations for the fish inside of 3 miles, so the vast majority of those nearshore and offshore fish fall under federal management. However, the offshore fish are getting a lot more pressure than they did in the past. I hope those stocks can stand up to it.

I think the main concern is for the separate population that migrate up into and spawn in the Broad and Edisto Rivers/sounds. The numbers have dropped drastically over the last five years and the majority of fish caught have hatchery-raised and released fish. I don’t think offshore regulation of cobia will be changed.
