Meant to post this the other day when I first seen it. I have always wanted SC to have a program like this. in the last 2 yrs I have caught at least 7 to 8 fish that would qualify…cant wait…

A striper doesnt get much longer than 40-45". Many 20-25# fish will measure 40"+. Once they hit 40" they start getting fat.
But I wasnt refering to all stripes. I had 4 brown trout in the last couple of yrs that would have went real close to 23". Two I know were 23 or better.
Just remember when if your tryin for these “citations” as NC calls them, dont just look at weight. A fish that is long enough will get you the same thing a a weight will. And a measurement is alot easier to collect and still release the fish. Just have to have good pix and print/fill out the DNR affidavit.
This fish was only 15#. Caught it in the SBCC on murray this past March. Completely filled up the striper tube from top to bottom. Which measures 36-37". Yes I know it would not have been long enough but it shows fish dont have to weigh a ton to be long enough.
Now take Ricks fish we caught awhile back. It was 15/16# and it wasn’t even close to 40-45"

Ah OK…was just kidding cause I thought you had read it like the adult striper requirement was 30 lbs. Looks like a pretty cool program.
I think brown trout is the only one I could have qualified for…wonder why rainbows aren’t on there? I always see when they stock the river that the vast majority of them are browns, but I swear I think I have caught more rainbows.
I know you were just kidding…ha…but really just wanted to show people not to worry about weight…ha…
It surprised me as well that they did not include bows. Maybe its because they get bigger. I too catch more bows than browns. Seen a pic if a guy who caught a 6.5# bow last week. Talk about a crazy looking fish. Only measured 21 or 22" but was like 6" tall…lol…didnt even look right. Will see if I can get a hold of it and send it to ya.

That is good to see! I’ve never landed a striper bigger than 39 inches, but have caught several 17+ inch crappie over the years while striper fishing, especially at the Hill… It’s great to see us developing a citation program like our neighbors to the north.
