This is the last weekend of the recreational red snapper mini season and SCDRs last opportunity (for awhile) to obtain samples from red snapper caught by recreational anglers. Last weekend we sampled 16 fish coast wide. Weather was mainly to blame. No samples were brought into the Marine Center.
Weather forecast looks good for this weekend, so hopefully more folks will get out. This is a reminder that if you are coming back in through Charleston Harbor and have caught red snapper, drop by the Marine Center at Ft. Johnson anytime between 2-7pm Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. We would greatly appreciate the opportunity to sample your fish. At least youll get a free t-shirt out of it. You can call (843-412-3269) if you want to let us know beforehand that you are bringing in red snapper.
If you cant get samples to the Marine Center or any of the DNR freezers, you can still help out by taking the survey found here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SCDNRRedSnapper2012
Maybe if they extend the season for about 2 more months, and set up more locations like say at the boat ramps as people are pulling out of the water they will collect more data. They want this data, but don’t make it easy on us. But then again that would be common sense and that is one of those things that our government lacks. Sorry for jacking your thread with my rant.
