Pain is nothing more than a response to a stimulus that the brain uses to signal “danger”… Every species of animal has the instinct to avoid danger and to survive. If they didn’t, they go extinct. But their brains are so small and they do not have the full capacity to experience pain the same way that we do. Just like you don’t experience smell the same way that your dog does, or echo-location the same way a dolphin does or a bat hunting with sonar at night, or heat the way that a pit viper does while tracking prey… Even though we can sense heat, smell, sounds, etc, we experience it in a much different way.

I think that any human that thinks that fish mentally and emotionally experience pain the same way humans do needs to be locked up, as they are likely a danger to society, and possibly themselves…

Agreed. Not to be rude to anyone else, but it's obvious a fish feels pain; why else would it fight or battle when you gaff it or hook it?

Well said!

Just to let you know, fish do sleep. I’m finishing off the Black Drum I caught @ IOP a couple of weeks ago. They’ll sleep well tonight. In the morning I’ll let you know if there’s any pain!! Seeya, Scott
