Do we need a catfishing forum? BIG Cat pic!

I wasn’t sure where to post this but figured I’d put it here, as this place gets a lot of posts and reads.

I looked at the freshwater and lake forums but they’ve had about 6 posts in as many months.

Someone HAS to see this fish!

My buddy David caught this last w/e on Lake Moultrie. He sent pictures in to Fish Finder or Fish & Hunt, whatever that free little magazine is. It should be in there next month. Might even make the cover!

It is “around” 90#'s. Couldn’t weigh it accurately because it was too big and the tail was laying on the ground.

Anyway, here is the picture he sent me:

That fish is worthy of any forum…daggum!

Can you share what bait he was using? Thinking of heading out there tomorrow. Would like some advice for my first catfish trip here in SC.

Just a plain ole piece of cut shad, but we also use herring and bream, both live and cut.

Good luck and let us know how you do.

That’s a nice one, for sure. Boy, that thing is FAT!

Was that from Moultrie?

My biggest was 38#'s but David has caught several over 50#'s.

This was, by far, his biggest.

Thanks for the pic!

Thanks, and I agree.

Certainly a once-in-a-lifetime fish.

My understanding is the state record is still at 109#'s, caught in the Tail Race in 1998.

A 136#er was caught in 2012, but it was caught on a trotline, so not a new record. I mention this to make others aware that there IS a new state record out there, somewhere…

I caught this one on lake wylie in 35 ft water using cut pieces of
too old chicken . Bait is sometimes hard to come by this time of year so I try to keep some in freezer. I didn’t see it personally
but read report today 1/24/15 of one 80 plus pounder caught yesterday
I think , same lake.:smiley::smiley:

Cool. Thanks for the update.

That is one heck of a catfish [:0]

Never having caught, or even seen a catfish of that size, I’ve got to ask if they are good to eat when that big? If so, that’s a lot of sandwiches:sunglasses:

He cooked some the other night and it tasted just fine.

I think he ended up with 35-40 pounds of meat off this one.

IMO chunking it up for big nuggets always works for my crowd, also
made into a good stew/soup is always awesome .:smiley:, when they
are this large you can make filet steaks any size you want!!!:stuck_out_tongue:

Like others said, I use the pretty white meat for to cut into nuggets. The rest cut into stew meat. I got 4 gallon bags of meat off this one:
