Being a guide and taking all types/shapes/ and sizes of people out in the boat I have always had a “plan” in the back of mind as to where I would go based on my location if someone got hurt. Last night I had to put that plan to use. This is something that is most likely overlooked and not thought about when going out in the boat but is very important and could be potentially LIFE SAVING.
If I am anywhere North of the Ben Sawyer bridge my most likely spot to go to would be the IOP marina and go to the landing.
South of the Ben Sawyer would most likely be the Sullivans Island Firemans landing.
If I was up the Wando I would probably head towards Remley’s Point.
Like I said earlier, this is something you never want to happen but when it does it helps to be prepared, I have been told my actions last night were HUGE in getting the injured person assistance as quickly as possible.
Good point to make for sure there Fritz. Being prepared can mean being prepared mentally for any possible scenario just as much as being prepared fuctionally, ie, first aid kit, boat tools, etc… and can be just as important, if not more. I allways find myself thinking about those “what ifs” and try to think of the best plan well in advance of any situation.

Hey Capt., if you are up the Wando near Horlbeck creek during the day, you could go to Palmetto Islands County Park. I had a minor emergency on my boat a few years ago and ran over there and tied to the dock. I called the park on the way over and a staff member met us at the dock.
