Who will work on it?

Evinrude says no service 'till 300 hours… So I havnt really thought about who will work on it when the time comes. Evinrude has a list of certified Mechs in Chucktown on their website, and I believe there are three of them. Likely I will put up a new post on CF.com after 300 hours and see what everyones oppinions are with the service they have had.

I looked at one but decided to go with a Yamaha 2 stroke 25. There are too many what ifs about the etecs to me. Cost was also an issue. I had to go with what I know.
The etec also weighs about 40 pounds more. Is 5 hp was not going to make up the weight difference? Besides, everywhere I looked for the etec had to order one. Seels has the Yamahas, 2 & 4 stroke, in stock.

How do you like your Yam so far? And what kind of warrenty did it come with? I may have to look into the 25 or 30 2 Stroke Yam and compare.

So far so good. I know a lot of people who have had them for a while and they are all still as solid as a rock. They sip gas and at 100:1 oil is not an issue either. Mine came with an automatic two year factory warranty- no extra.
A gallon of the etec oil is about $50. I know they are efficient and will idle in with no oil. However, I think the technology is too new. I know a few people who run bigger etecs and speak highly of them. I have also heard horror stories about the computer going out. Couple all that with the unknows of long term ethonol fuel use and like I said, too many “what if’s” for a fuel enjected motor.
You wont be able to find a 30 hp. Yamaha has not made one in about 15 years. If you come acoss a good used one- snatch it up. Very strong little motors.

Thanks for all the info. I appreciate it. And the Merc is doing just fine. Rebuild the Carb a month ago and she runs better than brand new. Im just lookin into getting a new boat. Something that can go places my Flat Bottom Johnny cant.

don’t believe the ad about no required service for 300 hours. Remember an outboard is an outboard and if you have one you will be bringing it in at least yearly. That is the smart thing to do.
I am trying to get yamaha to advertise that their motor doesn’t burn any gas and see if people believe those ads.

I agree with you 100% on the yearly “checkup” regardless of what any manufacturer advertises. That ol’ 25 Merc I have is a '92 and runs like a champ. Once a year, no matter what, I would pull and clean the carb, fuel lines and fuel filter, and replace the foot oil, ect, ect. I think the Etec are great motors, but the one thing that does worry me is that with all the new technology stuffed into them I wont be able to work on it all myself.

I am but I am in Texas. I would go to Seals outboard and talk to them. You can not go wrong with a yamaha and their are 100s of yamaha dealers everywhere. Look on the back of all commercial boats and see what type of motor they have. Finding a 2 stroke 25 remote may be hard due to them not building any 2 stroke motor under 50hp but yamaha still has some laying around.We ordered a bunch of 25s and still have a few in stock
