Do you trust what the weather person tells you? Last night I decided to do some night fishing, according to the weather people we were supposed to only have light and variable winds. I started fishing at 8 o?clock, at that time the winds were out of the Southwest at 4 mile an hour, after the sun went down the winds picked up to between 10 and 15 miles an hour. I would like to know where this weather pattern came from; I tried fishing in the area where I wanted to for an hour with no luck being able to hold the boat in place. I ended up finding a place out-of-the-wind for an hour with no luck: and at 1030 I decided to call it quits. Have you had this problem? This problem has been happening more and more night fishing with waves 2 to 3 foot high with whitecaps, it is hard fishing at night not being able to see, fishing during the day with these winds is not hard but night time is a different story.
Go to windfinder right now and look at what they are calling for and then go to a weather reporting site and look at the Actual wind speed and direction. 1 out of 100 times they might match.

I did; and it said 3 with gust up 5 mile per hour. So is wrong as well.
I don’t know where you were at but based on the size of the waves you’re talking about, probably Lake Moultrie or Marion. Those are very wide, large lakes, and it doesn’t take a lot of wind speed to make some serious waves.
I’ve also noticed that wind is almost always 5-8mph higher than they predict once you get to the water. Just nothing around to slow it down. I’ve often wondered if the air temps over the water differ enough from the air temps over the land/woods to induce some airflow.

Yeah, just as much as I trust what the politicians tell me…
Same thing happened to me last friday. Was supposed to be 4mph but the wind on Murray was blowing about 10 to 15. I think a lot of it has to do with storms forming that are not predicted.

Me, Never!! I take the weather forcast for what it is, good guess as to what they thing is going to happen… and like Redfish Matt said, if you are on the lake, the waves can get big with very little wind. Many people have lost their life for underestimating the power of Lake Moultrie…
A bad day fishing is much better than a good day at work.
