I’ve been reviewing tide logs, notes, and fishing pictures from the last 4 years and I noticed things are kicking off a little earlier than normal this year.
Here’s a short Tech Tip to supplement the Coastal Angler article.

What is “normal” to me? I normally don’t find schools of reds chomping at the bit until mid / late September. I jumped my first good cooperative school the first week of August this year. The next week I went 25 for 27 in 2 hours with 23 of them over the slot one day, then another dozen in an hour the next day with only one in the slot.
I stopped counting, but probably caught close to 100 reds in 5 trips. Only had one “bad” trip, but I tried fishing theough high tide to check out some different spots.
