I have always done well with true paddle tail plastic baits so I was pleased to see the new DOA airhead hit the shelves. It has the great “burst of tail” action and then a gentle tired out fall with the right pinch weight in place. I had a lot of hits on this bait on Friday, but no hookups. Partly due to ladyfish, the professional missers, but some had to be trout. I think the girth of the bait has something to do with the matter. I’m going to try a color with no sparkles to minimize the lady bite and perhaps trim some of the girth out of the bait. Does anyone else have any experience with this bait? Any hookup suggestions?
Good Luck, O.C.
I know stripers love them. No problem with hookups.

I have not tried them but now I look forward to giving them a shot!

I’m not a striper expert, but all the ones I’ve caught were instant-hookups that usually caught me off guard. I caught one this year in the tailrace on a 6" Rattling Rogue that managed to get every point of every hook buried in his face, gills, and chin. I started to take a picture because it was so absurd (all three points on all three hooks) and I’m still not sure I trust what my eyes saw), but it was a hot day, stripers were illegal to have in possession, so I unhooked him quickly and tossed him back in.
