In regards to the title of this topic, it must just be your luck with that particular combination. Funny how that happens with no rhyme or reason.
Being from the Upstate and only getting a trip or two to the salt each year, I’m no in-shore expert.
However, last year I drove down to buy a nice used, basically new, Ride and decided to try my luck with the popular Cajun Thunder rattler with a DOA shrimp underneath while I was in town.
I’d read about the noisy float/DOA combination, but not really knowing the hot color, I just bought the one that most looked like a muddy shrimp.
I put in on the Wando at Paradise and went both directions. Not much luck downriver, but when I paddled upriver and started hitting the feeder creeks the trout got hungry.
I put a nice creel in the boat that day even hooking a few reds. Maybe it was beginner’s luck, but heck, I’ll take it.
