Dock Boat Lift

Couldn’t find a better subject forum to put this under, but hope this works.

Got a friend/neighbor with a dock in Mt. Pleasant. He is an older guy and asked me for his help in fixing his lift.

It’s a basic lift with 4 cables at each corner and two I-beams with the bunks.

His cables and I-beams are all out of whack = crooked with one being a lot lower than the other.

I don’t have a ton of experience here.

What would be the best way to try and fix the situation? Any one done this before and have a tried and true method?

Or, better yet, anyone know of a person that might work on these for a living?

Any and all answers much appreciated.

thanks

Call American Dock and Marine. They installed and do the maintenance on my boat lift. Good folks. (843) 795-2999

most controllers for a 4 pile lift have a leveling feature. holding down the switch while running the lift only lets 1 side run. this will level the lift.
if it doesn’t have that or that won’t work send a pm and i can come fix it.
it’s what i do so there will be a charge for any work.

look at the pole which the cables wind up upon. If the cable is not wound tightly and there are large gaps b/t the cable; this will cause the cradle to be uneven. The best way to fix this is lower the cables (with the boat on the lift) at low tide. This keeps the cables taunt.

If the cable still has gaps when the boat reaches the water; then you will need to remove the boat from the lift and lower the cradle fully and rewind it with tension on the cable so that the cables wind tight.

Most of the lift manufacturers sell a “cable keeper” which helps prevent the cable from unwinding and creating the gaps and cradle from becoming “uneven” .

The front cables should be a bit shorter so as to have the bow higher and allow the water to drain properly in the boat

PM me if you have question

I appreciate everyones advice.

I have only seen the dock from the distance in the water. I am going to try and take a closer look at sometime after work this week or it may have to wait until the weekend.

thanks
